New in Visionic 4

09/01/2008

See what is new in Visionic 4.

Category: Visionic

The new Visionic4 brings lot of new exciting features, which are not part of the usual, off-the-shelf systems. These include service-based tracking of the systems, tags, search engine for devices and services, alarm levels and correlation and more. Here is the list of the most prominent new features in Visionic4:

Service-based systems

New elements in Visionic4 provide alternative view on devices and systems - service view. Services are typically associated with the end-customers and track the most important parameters - such as Eb/No, BER, output EIRP, used path and similar. The new functionality allows quick assesment of the status of services, commanding service to another path and similar. Services can be associated with customers, end-users and/or individual devices.
System can "stack" services in hierarchical structure, allowing organizations to track these spread accross different M&C systems - from input, baseband, to the output - RF and antenna equipment.

Tags

Tags allow extending any device or service with arbitrary data, such as support telephone numbers, customer data, emails, documentation and similar. The systems can be searched for specific tags and/or criteria. These extensions can also be used to expand the functionalities of device drivers, for example, to add min/max for particular parameter and similar. Tags are also used when alarm is reported, to quickly group alarmed devices with the same tags, allowing much faster overview what services, customers and subsystems are affected by the outage..

Alarm center

The new alarm center supports different levels of alarms, presented using different color coding scheme. In addition, the new alarm center also presents, along with each alarm in the system, the user-specified tags and information predefined by the system engineer. These additional information can help operator to quickly find the root cause of the alarm storm or to see, at a glance, what services and subsystems are affected by the alarms.

Web-based VisLogger

The Visionic also includes a trending and charting manager called VisLogger. The new VisLogger allows web-based access to external users for the data associated with their service and/or carrier. VisLogger, which can be installed on a central computer or on any of the Visionic-based stations, allows operators to chart & log different profiles of data. One profile can contain data points from different  M&C systems, such as Eb/No, EIRP power, HPA parameters and similar.
The profiles are assigned to users, where the user has access to review only profiles associated with her/him. The review is done via web browser and allows external users to review and see their data over Internet and in general, extra-nets..
The system can store trending data up to 24 months. The alarms and events are stored up to 12 months in a flat file, or any number of days for ODBC-logging.

Spectrum Analyzer

The Spectrum Analyzer subsystem allows connecting Agilent E-44xx and R&S FS3xx series to Visionic and provides full control over network. The Spectrum Analyzer option can be used as an independent program, or as a device included in the Visionic schematic. The Spectrum Analyzer subsystem allows complete control over the device, along with options for logging different data points (such as centre frequency and centre amplitude). The analyzers can be connected via LAN and serial port (Agilent) or via USB ports (R&S).

User-defined dialogs

Starting with Visionic 4, the engineer that designs the system has the possibility to define dialogs for any device or any element on the schematic. The designer is included with Visionic Professional and allows inserting standard and graphically attractive elements onto dialogs. The device dialogs can be tailored for functionality and standardized look and feel across the organization.
